Linden - Irvin Davis, 81, of Linden died early Saturday morning in Westminster Health Center at West Lafayette.  He had been hospitalized since Jan 7 with an extended illness.  He was born Jan 20, 1896, a son of Joseph and Ada Rice Davis, in Fountain County.,  He owned Davis Grocery in Linden from 1939-1953.  He worked in the maintenance department at Purdue University until 1967.,

He was married to Ruth Powell Dec 24, 1925.  He was a member of Linden United Methodist Church, Linden Masonic Lodge 697 and the Oriental Chapter of the Eastern Star 244.

He is survived by his wife; a son James I. Davis of West Lafayette; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Barton of Plainfield; two brothers, Carl of Covington and Joe of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Cochran of New Richmond and Mrs. Robert Lorton of Sarasota, Fla; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat grandchildren; and several nephews.  He was preceded in death by a sister.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Helms & Hahn Funeral Home.  Friends may call at the funeral home today from 3-9 p.m.  Masonic Rights are at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery - kbz
